UniFirst Receives "Green" Awards (Click Here for UniFirst Sustainability Efforts.) UniFirst has been saluted by municipalities nationwide for the laundering processes it has in place to help keep local environments safe and pristine. By way of example, the Missouri Water Environment Association (MWEA), an organization dedicated to the improvement of water quality in the "Show Me" state, presented UniFirst with its "gold" award for "outstanding achievement" in water treatment and safety. It's the ninth environmental award the MWEA has presented to UniFirst over the past decade. Examples of other civic entities that have honored UniFirst for its environmental conscientiousness include the Water & Wastewater Utility in Austin, Texas; Houston's Industrial Wastewater Service; the city of Richmond, VA; the Kansas Water Environment Association in Topeka; the Hampton Roads Sanitation District in Virginia; the city of Mesquite, TX; and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities in North Carolina. Additionally, UniFirst's UniTech division, which launders and decontaminates apparel worn by nuclear power employees, has been recognized for its environmental leadership by Exelon Corporation, one of the nation's largest nuclear power providers. On a corporate wide basis, UniFirst has also been a member of the Laundry Environment Stewardship Program (LaundryESP®) which has been recognized for reducing overall pollutants by 40 percent, water usage by 13 percent, and energy usage by 12 percent. With each passing year, the list of environmental awards UniFirst earns continues to grow. And it's among the reasons UniFirst's environmental motto is, "Going Green Beyond Our Logo."
