Tour a UniFirst plant and learn how every piece of apparel undergoes as many as 23 carefully controlled and monitored processing steps which begin from the moment of pickup at your place of business.
Since our founding in 1936, UniFirst's business mission has to been to focus on providing superior uniforms and quality services that empower our customers to project the best business image possible at the very best value. It's the professional image of your company's employees, after all, that helps you develop a team-like feeling that in turn leads to higher levels of camaraderie and productivity, all of which ultimately translate to your bottom line success.
Given the importance image can play in placing businesses like yours ahead of the competition, we're meticulous about our laundering and maintenance processes. That's why every single piece of apparel we pledge to clean and maintain for customers such as you routinely undergo as many as 23 carefully controlled and monitored processing steps which begin from the moment of pickup at your place of business. It's at your workplace where a trained UniFirst route sales representative accurately counts or scans all returning employee garments to ensure the correct number will be cleaned and ultimately available for return delivery. The UniFirst rep also sorts all customer clothing based on fabric type, color, and nature of soiling. Why is such sorting important? Because all of your garments are matched with scientifically calculated laundering formulas proven to produce maximum cleanliness.
Upon arrival at one of our 200 plus servicing facilities, another visual inspection is conducted as a backup measure to ensure your apparel has indeed been properly segregated. All garments are digitally weighed to determine total load, then placed into huge slings that hold more than 200 pounds of clothing. Once suspended from overhead rail systems, it's off to nearby towering industrial washers that follow preprogrammed wash, rinse, and temperature settings all based on your specific type of garments and their soil characteristics. Once the laundering cycle is completed, it's off to the giant-sized processing dryers for measured moister removal and fabric conditioning.
By using the latest in electronic bar code technology and proprietary software, UniFirst Team Partners are able to monitor your garments throughout each phase of the multistep process, and because all this coded information links to UniFirst delivery systems, you can routinely expect complete on time deliveries.
At UniFirst, we manufacture our uniform products and work apparel using the highest quality fabrics and the most durable and lasting design features, but even the very best made garments are subject to on the job wear and tear. That's why all the shirts and pants we process undergo 10-point quality inspections. Everything from buttons to belt loops to seams and zippers - all subject to detailed examinations to ensure they always look good and protect as originally designed. Any garment that fails inspection results in it being tagged and diverted to a mending station for immediate repair, or if deemed beyond repair, replaced from an extensive selection of standby inventory. All replacement garments are sent to a personalization station where emblems with embroidered wearer names and company logos are carefully sewn on for proper placement and appearance.
Given our founding mission to promote your business image for maximum market impact, UniFirst routinely presses all work shirts as a complementary service unlike other industrial launderers, and you'll be happy to know, there's no extra charge to receive the crisp, professional look you and your staff deserve. Similarly, other customer garments are sent through our steam tunnel where 275 degree temperatures make short work of any wrinkling.
Meanwhile as a special service to customers who operate within environmentally sensitive industries, such as food processing or healthcare where cross contamination is a concern, UniFirst offers specially segregated laundering processes, sanitization wash formulas, and poly bag protection for all finished apparel. This assures you that all work apparel remains as pristine, clean, and safe as possible.
Following our precise laundering cycle, electronic bar code readers guide customer apparel along the overhead rail systems to temporary storage areas where they're automatically sorted by delivery route and scheduled delivery days. Later, the same electronic programming system guides all garments past barcode readers for a second sorting. It's at this stage of processing that all clothing is electronically segregated by company name, employee wearer's name, and locker number. Following the second sorting, uniforms like yours are then systematically transferred to a pre-delivery staging area, where just as occurred at the very beginning of the laundering cycle, UniFirst route sales reps conduct visual inspections to verify all customer delivery counts are accurate. Once we're satisfied that our customer orders are complete, apparel is placed on delivery vehicles for their scheduled returns.
Although you typically only see pickup and delivery, those are only 2 of the dozens of critical steps included in our Rental Service process. Each and every UniFirst customer reaps the many marketplace benefits of a consistent, professional business image and the bottom line cost savings associated with our professional laundering and garment maintenance programs. Ultimately, UniFirst empowers all employees to be dressed for success no matter how fierce the economic or competitive winds may blow.
