About NFPA 652
NFPA 652: The Standard on the Fundamentals of Combustible Dust provides the general requirements for managing combustible dust fire and explosion hazards and states that when FR clothing is required, it must comply with the requirements of NFPA 2112 and be selected, procured, inspected, worn, and maintained in accordance with NFPA 2113. All UniFirst FR garments are UL® Classified to meet the NFPA 2112 standard, and UniFirst garment service programs follow the guidelines set forth in NFPA 2113.

About Combustible Dust Explosions
According to OSHA's Safety and Health Topics Combustible Dust website, combustible material (and some materials normally considered noncombustible) can burn rapidly when in a finely divided form. Most natural and synthetic organic materials, as well as some metals, can form potentially deadly combustible dust. If such a dust is suspended in air in the right concentration, it can become explosive. Such incidents have killed scores of employees and injured hundreds over the past few decades.
A combustible dust explosion hazard may exist in your workplace, especially if you are in the food, plastics, wood, rubber, furniture, textiles, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, dyes, coal, metals, fossil fuel power generation or one of many other industries that processes, handles, stores or transports materials or byproducts in fine, powdery form.
The importance of workers donning personnel protective equipment (PPE) takes on an added dimension with the threat from combustible dust fires and explosions in the workplace. Many manufacturing facility managers, owners, and employees are not aware of the fire hazard posed by combustible dust.
